the Polidora
This stone house has always been here and we call it The Polidora.
Luigi Boniforti, the Canon of Arona, in his book Lago Maggiore e dintorni, 1858 (Lake Maggiore and its Environs) says:
Stories are told of one Polidoro, a local boatman and his audacious deeds of piracy in the sixteenth century. With his messengers, who led astray the respectable folk in this part of the lake, he looted and killed the sailors. The Court of Justice sent him to the gallows with the villains that were his accomplices.
Whether it really was his house, we'll never know, but we like to think so. That's how our bed and breakfast got its name.
