| Villa Taranto | The most important botanical garden of Lake Maggiore. By car from Cerro, or boat from Stresa, walking distance from Verbania or Pallanza. |
| S.Caterina del Sasso | The story begins in 1170, when Alberto Besozzi, a rich merchant, shipwrecked during a storm on these rocks... Visit very recommended. 3 min. drive from Cerro, warning: long and steep staircase; easier by boat from Stresa, very romantic at sunset. |
| Verbania | Busy city, proud of its history. Fine shops, restaurants; on Saturday very busy market. |
| Pallanza | Small and very charming. Walking distance from Villa Taranto, lakeside or through the Castagnola. Prince Paul Troubetzkoy artist and sculptor, Museo del Paesaggio. Fine Italian food. |
| Stresa | Old holiday resort, music festival from April to August. By car, or by boat from Verbania. |

| Val Formazza | Day trip by car. Cascata del Toce, highest waterfall in Europe; on the road, see Baceno, S.Gaudenzio church (XI sec.). |
| Val Grande | Day trip by car. National Park. See eagles and chamoises. For trekking in the wilderness, a guide is recommended. |
| Alpe Veglia e Devero | A beautiful natural park in the Alps. Easy trekking. |
| Villa della Porta Bozzolo | A FAI property, Villa della Porta Bozzolo is a country residence that dates back to XV century. |
| Villa Panza | Another FAI property, Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza di Biumo hosts one of the most important contemporary art collection. |
| Arcumeggia | A small village in the mountains became an open air gallery of frescos in 1956. |
| Milano | Fashion, fine food, La Scala opera house, Leonardo's Last Supper. Need anything else? by car, or train from Laveno FN. |
| Lugano | A nice car trip to Switzerland. |
| Locarno | Cinema festival from August 1st to 11th. |
