Trattoria Calianna: Built in Laveno-Mombello in 1983 on the ashes of an old inn Laveno. The homemade cuisine is based on seasonal products, directly supervised by the owner and cook Bridget. The love for healthy and traditional cuisine and continuous search for typical Italian flavours are constant elements of the way we work. Here you will find a comfortable and friendly environment where you can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine, characterized by a strong mark that dates back to the origins of the cook, and some local dishes such as risotto with fish or polenta. Reservations are recommended.

La Casera: Eros Buratti in Verbania is a refiner of cheeses, an ancient profession that is a part of the tradition of our area, surrounded by the green mountain pastures. The territory is full of small artisan companies that are dedicated to dairy production, giving priority to the quality, accuracy in the selection of raw materials, knowledge and expertise in the choice of products to be placed on the market. The refiner, as Eros often says, is the one who takes the cheese "from kindergarten to college," from the cellar, to the table.

Ristorante Milano: In an old house in Pallanza that overlooks the lake, a genuine Piedmontese cuisine is being offered since three generations, which makes it possible to rediscover the ancient and genuine flavours of the area. Fish specialties (strictly from the Lake Maggiore) and a lot more

Hostaria Al Camino: An old farmhouse of Lesa, cleverly converted into a restaurant in the late 60s. A large summer terrace from where you can enjoy a beautiful view overlooking Lake Maggiore. Three small and cosy dining rooms including one with its characteristic fireplace that gives its name to the localePicturee, equipped with large windows facing the lake. A simple but fine kitchen, where everything is strictly homemade: tagliatelle, ravioli, lasagna, tagliolini, crespelle, dumplings and the famous Parisian onion soup. Art and History

Villa Panza: immersed in a beautiful park of 33,000 square meters, Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza overlooks the city of Varese from Biumo Superiore hills. The mansion was built in the mid-eighteenth century on an existing "noble house" at the request of Marquis Paolo Antonio Menafoglio, a vibrant man and skilled banker with interests in Milan and Modena. Today it houses the finest collection of contemporary art of Count Giuseppe Panza di Biume.

Villa della Porta Bozzolo: situated among the frescoes and rose gardens, the Villa has offered hospitality for five centuries, first as a country residence and then as a representative ancient residence. It is preserved as a treasure chest inside an impressive terraced park which also houses an ancient frescoed shrine, revealing inside all the rococo flavour of a "Villa of Delight".

Arcumeggia: A small mountain village located between the Valcuvia and Valtravaglia, known as the "Land of Painters", where many frescoes decorate the exterior walls of the houses. Among the authors who have made this village famous are: Giuseppe Montanari; Aldo Carpi; Umberto Faini; Ferruccio Ferrazzi; Francesco Menci; Eugenio Tomiolo; Carmelo Nino Trovati, and many others. Santa Caterina del Sasso; perched on an overhanging cliff with its face overlooking the lake, the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sceneries of Lake Maggiore. The Church is accessed through a Renaissance styled porch of four arches. The present building has a truly unique structure, resulting from the fusion of three chapels, which were originally distinct and originated in different periods. There are numerous pictorial cycles present outside and inside the church, covering a period from the fourteenth to the nineteenth century. Art and history blend beautifully into one of the most evocative natural frameworks, a balcony that juts out into the Gulf Borromeo, Stresa and the islands.

San Defendente: San Defendente is just a few steps away from Polidora. Built in the ninth century and originally dedicated to Saints Nazario and Celso, consequently it was equipped with the bell tower. It is an interesting example of Romanesque architecture.

San Gaudenzio: On the way to the Cascata del Toce, it is worth stopping by the church of San Gaudenzio in Baceno. Built around the year 1000, it is an example of Romanesque architecture in Lombardy, modified throughout centuries with Gothic and Baroque styles.

Civic Collection Of Earthenware, Palazzo perabò: Sice 1971, the International Museum Of Ceramic Design is housed in a prestigious sixteenth century palace, Palazzo Perabò, in cerro, a few steps from Polidora. It is the rightful testimony to the long history of ceramics of Laveno Mombello which hosted major manufacturers since 1856. Laveno, Gio Ponti, Guido Andlovitz, Antonia Campi were the most prestigious among the artistic directors of the ceramics. Their design has left a great impression on the production of ceramics. The collections and donations are on behalf of Richard Ginori, Scotti-Meregalli, Franco Ravelli and others.

Isola Bella: It is an amazing site thanks to recurrent blooms and priceless art treasures that come together in a harmonious microcosm. Transformed from rock to a flower garden, today the island looks like a ship floating on the blue waters of Lake Maggiore, as was the intention of its founder Vitaliano VI Borromeo. Visiting this site will allow you to immerse yourself for a day in a bygone era where the baroque style blends virtuously with the architecture of the green garden, creating a combination that is unmatched.

Museo del Paesaggio (Landscape Museum): It houses an important collection of sculptures of Prince Paul Troubetzkoy. It also offers collections of Popular Painting, Sculpture, Archaeology and Religiosity to the public, which allow you to learn about various aspects of art and history of the province. In addition, since 1978, the Museum has regained, while restoring of the original purpose intended by the founder, a vital relationship with the surrounding landscape, developing a continuous activity of knowledge and protection of its cultural, artistic and environmental goods.

Gardens

Isola Madre: is a precious jewel in the waters of Lake Maggiore. Known throughout the world for its refined botanical collections, it is the largest of the islands in Verbano and emerges from the water surface with an exuberant profile, outlined by lush vegetation that extends over most of its surface and square bade of the palace, built on the south shore and the highest point of the island. Far away from Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori, it was probably the first of the islands to be inhabited. Alongside the lush greenery of the garden are situated: the ancient palace, in which are preserved the inside prestigious furnishings of House Borromeo, and the family chapel with the beautiful facade decorated with terracotta panels.

Villa Taranto: Everyone who has lived in Verbania, on Lake Maggiore, whether for a long time or a season, or even a summer afternoon, has most certainly visited the garden of Villa Taranto. The reputation it enjoys in the world influences even those in a hurry to spend a couple of hours in it. The current appearance of the garden of Villa Taranto is not a spontaneous product, but the result, moulded over time, of a laborious processing undertaken by Captain Mc Eacharn in 1931. Entering the gardens of Villa Taranto is like taking a journey through distant countries.

Parco Nazionale della Val Grande: is a protected natural area, entirely situated within the boundaries of the Verbanian province, established in 1992 to preserve the largest wilderness area in the Alps and Italy. The park includes the entire Great Valley of Val Pogallo and parts of Vigezzo, Cannobina, Ossola and Intrasca.

Cascata del Toce: The most beautiful, the most powerful among waterfalls in the Alps. The Cascata del Toce (waterfall of Toce) river is the second highest waterfall in Europe: it has a water jump of 143 meters. The peak is an excellent vantage point from which you can admire the waterfall in all its grandeur. Toce waterfall is visible in its majesty only for short periods of the year, as its waters are collected in the Morasco basin, upstream of the waterfall, and, through a penstock tunnel, they reach the central Enel Bridge to be then used in the production of electrical energy.

Zermatt is a popular winter and summer tourism destination in the Alps, the home of Alpine skiing, with many lifts and many miles of trails.

Shopping

Pallanza: overlooking Lake Maggiore, is in a privileged position in front of the Borromeo Gulf; Pallanza is an elegant town that combined with Intra presents the two main residential areas of the town of Verbania. This ancient village of Roman origin, as documented on a marble votive cippus of the first century AD, preserved in the Church of Santo Stefano, is today a popular tourist destination full of hotels, villas and parks. The old town is full of ancient districts and squares, lined with noble historic houses decorated with doorways, porches, capitals and arches. The lakeside of Pallanza, among the most beautiful of Lake Maggiore, offers a scenic stroll among the archipelago of the Borromean Islands on one side and colourful facades, porches, flowery balconies, terraces and cafes on the other. Visited day and night by tourists, it is the main meeting point for the city.

Intra: The town, which along with Pallanza, Suna and other smaller fractions, constitutes the City of Verbania which became the provincial capital in 1992, overlooking the waters of the Borromeo Gulf. A bustling tourist centre, with adequate accommodation and services, Intra (within rivers) owes its name to its location close between the two streams San Bernardino and San Giovanni. Intra is a medieval town that still retains some traces of its origins along its main streets like San Vittore, which leads from the waterfront to the church of the same name (with paintings of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries), via San Fabiano, leading to Piazza Castello or Vicolo del Freschetto that leads to the beautiful Piazza San Rocco.

Arona: Fifth city of the province based on population, today, it is a tourist-service hub on the shores of Lake Maggiore, whose development was favoured by its position on Via del Sempione and its convenient connection to Milan (highway and rail). The Mercurago, one of the oldest settlements in the Alps, is situated in the municipality, included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.
